BBR closed Monday February 6th so staff can support AOP Awards trio

The Association of Optometrists (AOP) Awards evening takes place on Sunday, February 5 and, as BBR Optometry has a hat-trick of finalists, many staff from the practice will be supporting them by attending the ceremony in London to hear the winners announced.

This means that BBR Optometry will not be open on Monday, February 6, but the practice can still be contacted by telephone during that day. Otherwise, normal opening hours will be in place for the rest of the week.

Daniel Read, Practice Manager, said: “I’m sure all of our valued patients will understand that it is not very often an independent practice such as ours is nominated for such a prestigious award but to have three finalists is totally unprecedented.

“We are a very close team and I am delighted that everyone wanted to come along to support Nick Rumney, Nick Black and Laura Reece as they find out whether they have been named winners. We felt that we wanted as many of our staff as possible to be there to give support and to celebrate their achievements so I hope that everyone will understand the decision to close for the day.

"I’d like to thank again all those that cast their vote for Nick, Nick and Laura and know that there will be many patients wishing them their best on the night.

“The awards evening also takes place during 100% Optical, an annual show for professionals working in optometry, and this means our staff will be taking the opportunity to find out more about the latest trends in eyewear and technology that can benefit our own patients,” he added.

At the AOP Awards, Chairman Nick Rumney has been shortlisted as Optometrist of the Year, Chief Executive Nick Black as Contact Lens Practitioner of the Year and Laura Reece is in line for Newly Qualified Optometrist of the Year.

The awards ceremony will be hosted by Holly Walsh, acclaimed live performer and panel show regular, who frequently appears on TV programmes Mock the Week, Would I Lie to You?, 8 Out Of 10 Cats and Never Mind The Buzzcocks.

Keep your fingers crossed for our finalists and watch this space to find out who the winners are.
